A modernist renovation of a pre-war apartment for a young family.

New life was given to a formerly outdated pre-war apartment by using a modern approach to preserving the unit’s historic architectural character, while adapting to the needs of a young family. Carefully calibrated white walls unify the space, amplify daylight, and celebrate the original Art Deco details of the unit, while framing views of Lincoln Park and Lake Michigan.

Contrast is embraced through color, material, and furnishings. Framed openings, including custom steel and glass doors, create layered spaces that feel open, while supporting multiple uses and providing varying degrees of privacy.
